We live in a time when many of the systems we rely on — in our organisations, communities, and societies — feel as though they are fast losing fit with the changing world around us.

Leadership has always been about tending to three horizons - the present, the future and the pathways from here to there - but in times of uncertainty we can find ourselves disproportionately dragged into the work of the former.

This is ok in the very short term, but if we don’t also keep tending wisely and effectively to the future, it will end up being shaped disproportionately by those with less concern for the now.

As renowned futurist Wendy Schultz has said: “We can’t control the future, but we can influence it, by what we choose to do, and what we choose not to do”.

Deep Wave’s point of view is that leadership is fundamentally about getting us all from where we are to somewhere ‘better’. This workshop is for non-profit board members who feel that call.

  • Perhaps you ooking for new insights, tools and methods that can support you in your board member role in thinking about tending to the needs and opportunities of the future as well as those of the present

  • Perhaps you have a sense that the future is asking something different of the organization’s (or sector’s) “business as usual” and you are looking for a way to open up more constructive conversations about meaningful change.

Built around the International Futures Forum (IFF)’s broadly adopted Three Horizons framework, this session offers a simple, powerful way to make sense of the patterns of change, and an exploration of practical, pragmatic ways to begin to work with and within them more effectively.

Across a highly interactive three-hour experience, you will:

  • Learn how to work with the natural tensions between today’s realities, desired & contested futures, and the “messy middle” between here and there

  • Discover a shared language that will help you have more constructive conversations about meaningful change with those around you

  • Explore your own role and agency in shaping the future of the systems you care about

You will leave with:

  • A clear, usable framework for you can apply in your efforts to lead change in complex situations

  • New insight into where you can have the greatest impact

  • A connection to a diverse and fast growing global community of other leaders who are also committed to influencing a better future

This version of our Leadership & Change workshop brings together non-profit board members from different countries, and life paths, creating a rich learning environment where inspiration and practical insight flow both ways.

If you care about the future — and want to be more effective in helping shape it — this workshop is for you.
